[ During the day, Seigi finds herself face to face with a small slug spirit. It holds in it's hands Tsukuru's gifts to her.
It offers her the bouquet first. There's a handmade envelope jutting out the center of it, and opening it up reveals a card that's signed To Seigi, from Tsukuru!
The second thing that the spirit offers Seigi is box of chocolates. It's noticeably pretty large, and naturally, home-made.
Finally, it holds out a box that popping open reveals a single tea cup, with a matching spoon.
Once Seigi has her gifts, the spirit slinks away, back to work. ]
Forward dated to March 2nd (BECAUSE IT'S MARCH HERE)
[The note itself is actually clean; despite the fact that there appear to be crinkles and tears all over it. Copied? Magically duplicated? It doesn’t matter. By morning, a spirit delivers the letter, and Grit is nowhere to be found.]
Hi.
A friend of mine is going to copy this for me when Im finished writing it so I dont know who this one is going to yet. Im sorry Im not writing everyone a really nice letter but its realy important that everyone knows this fast.
Du Serif forgot about me. I dont know how but thats not important. I have to ask you for something and its really hard.
Please dont tell dun Serif about me.
When I was in the underground people didnt remember me all the time. And that was okay. When people didnt remember me I got to make friends with them again. Making friends again means that I cant think of people like memories. They have to be people first. I want to be friends with Serif again so I have to make friends with him again.
Dunkle Serif
Hes my da
I really want him b
I dont want to be friends with Serif again just because we were friends before. So I have to be friends with him now.
I know you might think its bad but I do need to do this by myself. Trust me please.
I want to be alone for a while. Ill be back later.
[Seigi woke up to find this note. She read it over, confused. Prank? It looked very odd. It was in her mailbox, was it the wrong place? An accident?
The underground mention.
Then there was also this person was talking about Serif. Which made her weary. Maybe a bit protective. Friend making? This person had to know that this was an accident, and what they said about Serif stuck with her anyway.
And the bit of the underground. Especially that. This was alarming.
What started as maybe a letter saying they had the wrong guy, it turned out...to be something else. The more she thought about it, the angrier she got. The more suspicious.]
To who this concerns,
I don't know if you meant to send this to me or not, "Grit". Or if this is a big joke that goes way beyond the jokes Serif liked to spew out. It's not funny.
Making friends in the underground? People not remembering you?
Are you being serious right now?
You don't sound like a monster. You sound like a human with that talk of arriving in the underground. Back off with this fairy tale that tries to make you sound better than you actually are. You humans are all the same.
[ She doesn't remember her, Tsukuru knows that. She worries, though. She remembers the strong warrior who stood on her own against her shadow, she remembers the way she believed in everyone. Monsters and humans. Seigi fought for them both; she overcame an understandable hatred to find a peaceful, heartfelt existence. Tsukuru admired that about her.
The Royal Guard she was going to visit was that same person. No doubt about it -- she goes looking for a ramen stand. Something delicious smelling, that looks nice and greasy. She remembers how Seigi had wanted to just mow through that yakisoba stand, before all this began. It's been a long time, hasn't it?
Tsukuru remembers the teacup she'd given Seigi for Valentine's Day. She remembers the spear with the pink bow. She'd used that against Orochi, the giant snake of a monster who took one of their own. Like a pair of knights, they'd vanquished that beast together... But even that's not something Seigi remembers, is it? It's been a long time. A long while. Her friend probably doesn't remember, but Tsukuru remembers everything. She'll have to recall it all for her.
Combing the stalls for the monster isn't hard. She wants to know if she's still here, that's all. She wants to know if Seigi is okay, if she's happy, if she's better than that note on the bulletin boards had implied. Her friend had been suffering, and she'd been quiet in return. She let her sort her head out.
...But the memories of the fight as Gelsadra are fresh. The wounds feel like they're trying to heal. Joe's fire still licks her flesh in her mind, and the sensation of a blade severing her arm from her body repeats over and over with every gust of cold wind. Paiman had hit her so hard, and she wasn't going to lose, but Miau had been right: They really wanted a slaughter, that time. This is the hard part, wandering around the sea of spirits and workers with an arm that should only feel as searing pain and a weak, tired demeanor. She had enough in her for this, and then she'll sleep, she thinks. Sleeping sounds nice.
[There was a slight feeling of nostalgia walking through these stands as she went to grab herself lunch that day. It had been an eventful few days for the fish woman, so to speak. She spilled her guts out on an emotional level, she opened her arms out to expect bullets.
Instead, she got understanding. From other monsters and even humans.
It was so weird, and she rattled her brain all the time.
She couldn't remember any of it, and she hated it.
She wished it never happened. Seigi was sure she was missing so many friends and things she would fight to keep. That was what her peers told her. The friends she remembered or who came to her after the fact.
How many people DID she forget? Other than the one she gravely hurt, and she regretted every minute of her days.
It felt better with Phyllis here, a lot better. But how to explain it to her? That she forgot their dear friend? That she forgot the humans and everything seemed like a blurry blank.
[ Tsukuru's line of vision follows the steaming meal that's placed before the woman she knows as a Royal Guard. She sees the hair, the iridescent blue skin, and the gills -- it's certainly Seigi. She's here. Tsukuru smiles, lightly, and takes short strides toward her. ]
Seigi-san.
[ It doesn't matter if Seigi doesn't remember her, Tsukuru decides. She'd want to. She would want her to slide into the seat next to her, she would want Tsukuru to take to her like she always would. And why wouldn't she? Seeing the woman she thought of as a brave knight, so tall and strong and cool, a heroic figure carved out of muscle and determination... it reminded her of who Seigi was.
[A girl came and sat next to her. A woman she didn't know. A happy woman, here to see her. Someone who wanted to see her.
She didn't think much until she came up and said her name. A girl she couldn't recognize. Seigi got a bad feeling in her gut. Someone she was sure this meant she knew of, but she couldn't remember. Bad feelings coming up, and the noodles made a rock bottom feeling appear in said gut.
Seigi looked to her guest, a somber expression coming up. This girl knew what was happening to her, and she was so uncomfortable. But it wasn't met with hostility. None at all. She couldn't muster it, as that was what she didn't feel.
Words actually couldn't come up, and she just looked at the sadly.
I get it. [ Tsukuru does not feel a need, nor desire, to say anymore than that. It's okay. She understands that this is out of Seigi's hands, but she knows the heroine enough to know who she is at her core. She doesn't speak, but the expression is loud like Seigi always is. She's always been easy to read, and Seigi had no problem with that. It's the way she is. A loud, honest hero. ]
I don't mind it. [ Tsukuru bites on the inside of her cheek, inquisitively watching her friend's expression shift to something akin to a rain cloud. ] I wanted to say I came back. From going home.
[ That's all, right...? She wanted to see how she was doing. She had come back from the fight with Gelsadra, disoriented, but not lost. She knew who she missed, she knew who she had to see. Now that she's seen her, Tsukuru's heart doesn't waver.
greetings, seigi. my name is buttercup. i believe we have met previously. i would like to meet with you in regards to your time on the royal guard--as toriel and asgore dreemurr are no longer with us, i believe it may be prudent to discuss extra security measures.
would you be amenable to meeting over tea later in the day? my room number is 014, on the fourth floor.
When Seigi received this letter, she felt a certain sinking feeling. She was particularly taking the departure of the King and Queen hard. The King especially. Boss, friend, and mentor.
She didn't waste any time, you can take her from being the captain of the Underground. But you can't take the captain out of her.
All there was left were The Prince and Buttercup. For the King and Queen, she was prompt and just appeared at their door.]
[they open the door, looking seigi over with their usual uncomfortably wide smile. after a moment, they back away, quietly pulling a small table from the corner. said table had two teacups and a teapot on it, presumably taken from the kitchens. buttercup pours seigi a cup and does the same with their own.]
Golden flower tea. Like the flowers in Asgore's garden. Not unlike my current namesake, but different enough to be delicious instead of poisonous. You needn't call me 'Your Highness.' I'm practically nothing.
[they blink down, surveying their tea, before looking up again.]
However, I am concerned for Isol. There is an influx of humans, and it's only a matter of time before one appears that doesn't take to our--to your kind.
[this monologue would be going perfectly, if not for that minor slip up. damn. they hope she doesn't notice.]
